McNair Misses 2nd Straight Practice with Stiff Back

McNair vs the 49'ers

Things do not look good for Ravens QB Steve McNair when it comes to playing Sunday at home against the St.Louis Rams. McNair missed his second straight day of practice on Friday with a stiff back, and if it does not get better for Sunday, the team will have to turn to back up Kyle Boller to be their starter. “It’s just tightened up,” Ravens coach Brian Billick said. “I’m not sure the groin didn’t lead to some tightness in the back. We’ll have to see how he feels at the end of the day today, Saturday and Sunday — game-time decision.”
The bottom line on McNair is that he has not been all that effective even when in there. He is having to throw the ball a lot, and so far this season has thrown for 922 yards with just two TD’s and two interceptions. He had to put the ball up 53 times two weeks ago when the Ravens lost in Cleveland. At 34 years old, McNair’s time as an effective starting QB is coming to an end. On the other side, it looks as if Boller is getting a little better. This season he has played in three games when McNair had to sit, and has thrown for 287 yards and two TD’s and one pick. The Ravens seem in good hands overall if they have to go with Boller on Sunday.
