Garrett Narrows Choices to Ravens, Cowboys

It’s down to two in the mind and heart for Cowboys current offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. After speaking to the Ravens on Tuesday and the Falcons on Wednesday, Garrett has reportedly decided he will either be taking the head coaching job of the Ravens, or staying put with the Cowboys and likely getting a pay raise and a promise to be the teams next head coach whenever current coach Wade Phillips wears out his welcome.

The Baltimore Sun reported Wednesday that the Ravens had offered the head coaching spot to Garrett, but he left without a deal in place to fly to Atlanta to talk again to the Falcons. He left there and headed back to Dallas last night to think about his future and where he may end up. A source says that Garrett may announce his decision on staying with the Cowboys or heading to Baltimore sometime today.

Word is that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was calling Garrett non-stop in an attempt to keep him with the Cowboys. Sources say that Jones would be willing to offer Garrett a raise, as well as the promise of a head coaching job in Big D someday. This could do more harm than good for the Cowboys in the long run as they will basically be putting Phillips on notice that the future head coach of the Cowboys is going to be right there on the sidelines as well each and every week ready to take over when you eventually falter.

The pay raise that Garrett could get would only complicate matters, as it could be up to $3 million a year. That means you may have an assistant coach making more than the head coach. In this case Garrett making more than Phillips. Just another day in Dallas for a Jerry Jones run team. The Sun is reporting that Jones and Garrett talked again last night, possibly to seal the deal to stay in Big D.
