Ogden Leaning Towards Retirement?

Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden

Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden, despite sounding like he is leaning towards retiring from the game, there are little hints that he may return, as well.  Here are some hints – Ogden, as he told Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun while at the Super Bowl media center: “I’m still in the same place; I’m still leaning toward not coming back.  If I do, I have to feel healthy.  I can’t go through what I did last season.  I can’t be getting treatment every day.  And with a new regime, it’s going to be more work.”

More from Ogden: “It doesn’t really matter.  I’m not the type of guy who wants to go through a hard training camp.  But I can get through it, and I have done it in the past.” While he is still walking around with a slight limp, he seems to be getting around better than he did during the regular season.  The problem I find with this whole scenario is that there seems – to me, at least – to be mixed messages coming from Ogden.

I think that he needs to decide – and decide relatively quickly – whether he plans to return or retire.  There is this little issue called the 2008 NFL Draft, and Ogden’s final decision will make at least a small difference in how the Ravens plan their draft strategy.  He would be doing himself and the Ravens a big favor by making his decision ASAP.
