Perhaps it took last week’s performance by Baltimore Ravens quarterback Kyle Boller (11-of-15, 102 yards, a fumble and an interception) to help team head coach John Harbaugh make a decision on his starting QB against the Minnesota Vikings August 16, but whether that is the case or not is speculation at this point as Harbaugh, according to the Associated Press, announced that second-year QB Troy Smith will get the start. Harbaugh even went so far as to say that the QB derby may be over as soon as just before their third preseason game.
Smith didn’t exactly light up the field either as he went 5-of-12 for 74 yards but connected on a pair of long strikes to wide receivers Darnarien McCants and Justin Harper for 30 and 18 yards, respectively. With the start on Saturday, Smith will hope to build upon his last effort and his 2 rookie starts where he threw 2 TD’s and no interceptions in 76 attempts.
