Who will Baltimore Select in the First Round?

I know that right now that everything is about free agency and namely if the Ravens can keep several of their starters from their top ranked defense.

But frankly I’m a bit on overload. I was still of the opinion that Baltimore would franchise Ray Lewis but some reports have even that number at 11 million and not around 7 or 8 that many previously thought. So for the moment I figured I’d look at some other issues.

Sure it’s not until April 25th but I figured I’d take a look at some options for Baltimore, who in the first round will have the 26th pick.

Receiver was one of the areas that was exposed in the AFC Title game. They need a player with speed, the ability to get separation and make big plays. Harvin was one of the more versatile players in the nation and has fantastic speed. He’s only about 6’0″, so he’s more in the mold of a Santana Moss type player or maybe even Reggie Bush as he could be used some interesting formations by Cam Cameron.

Some experts have him ranked as the top corner in the draft and the team will need help there with Rolle and McAlister to likely be shown the door. He could be another big play weapon in the defensive backfield next to Ed Reed.

This huge target at 6’4″ could be a great pairing on (gasp) the offensive side of the ball to go with Ray Rice and young Joe Flacco. I like him because of his size and why not pair a young hopeful for Flacco to throw all those TD passes to?

Seems strange with so many LB’s in the fold but if Lewis, Scott and Suggs can’t come back then Ozzie’s “best player available” theory may be tested. English has quickness to spare and gets to the quarterback quickly.

These are just a few options and we are still months away so a lot still needs to happen to sort out the needs of the team come draft day.

So what do all of you think? Which direction should the franchise take towards the future?

  1. I like to see the ravens try to get a good pass rushing d end.

  2. Alex Mathews says:

I like the idea of a corner with Rolle and Mcalister leaving, not sure if Davis will be there but that would be awesome, he has a lot of Mcalister in him

  3. I knew I started talking about this too early but eh, why not.

It looks like this week will reveal a lot about the team’s plans as we see who gets retained.

C-Mac is officially out. I think Rolle will be too and maybe Mason.

I’d be shocked if they just let Suggs walk, so maybe they are clearing some space?
