Ravens Add Six Time Pro Bowler Birk

According to the Baltimore Sun

The Ravens have reached an agreement with free-agent center Matt Birk on a three-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The six-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman will fill the void left by Jason Brown, who signed with the St. Louis Rams on Friday.

“To add a player like Matt, who will also give us outstanding leadership, makes us a better team,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said in a statement. “We’re not standing pat. We’re moving forward and getting better.”

Jason Brown? I wasn’t thrilled about losing the emerging star but I’m even happier now that they have an experienced hard nosed vet to work with Joe Flacco.

Birk is also not only a Harvard grad, which would indicate something about his intelligence and savy. But he’s also a quality individual and just the type of player that Baltimore wants to add as it looks to shed some of the old image of past players.
