Ravens to Release Kicker Matt Stover

The Ravens will have a new kicker in 2009, as reports are coming in that the team is going to release long time kicker Matt Stover. A source says that Stover stated that the Ravens told him that he’s no longer in their plans.

Stover is the last of the “original” Ravens to come off the boat from Cleveland when Art Modell and the Browns made the move to Baltimore. He was a 12th round pick of the New York Giants in 1990, and joined the Browns in 1991 and played an amazing 18 seasons in Cleveland and Baltimore.

“At that point, we knew for sure their direction was to not to keep me,” Stover said to the Baltimore Sun. “They want to go in another direction.”
