The Baltimore Sun reports…
Chris Carr, a free-agent return specialist and backup cornerback, has reached an agreement in principle with the Ravens, a league source confirmed today.
Carr, 25, will sign a two-year, $5 million contract on Monday at Ravens headquarters.
He will provide depth at cornerback and could replace Yamon Figurs as a kick returner. Last season with the Tennessee Titans, Carr was third in kickoff-return average (28.1 yards) and eighth in punt-return average (10.1) in the AFC.
Carr played under Ravens secondary coach Chuck Pagano when both were with the Oakland Raiders.
Ozzie Newsome continues to patch up the weak spots for the team.
This move seems to put some other moves in motion. First, I think that there is no question that Samari Rolle will be let go sometime next week. The move makes sense as it will save about 4 million against the cap and Rolle was plagued with injuries the past two seasons. Secondly, along with Foxworth the Ravens have gotten younger and quicker in the secondary. Finally since Carr is also a kick returner that means that Yamon Figurs could be released as well. Figurs was frightening sometimes, and not in a good way. He was too indecisive and hadn’t quite figured out to call for a fair catch when a punt is inside the ten. Carr could be asked to compete with Ray Rice or Tom Zbikowski for return duties.
