A Passing Fancy

The Baltimore Ravens were back to work at Owings Mills today in their second day of passing camp. These days should just be to get reps in and continue to hone skills. It almost became the day where Tavares Gooden became the most hated man in Baltimore.

During practice, Joe Flacco was flushed from the pocket and scampered ten yards and with Gooden quickly behind him Flacco fell to the ground.

The fall got a big reaction from those watching today. But all those who held their breath regained normal function after Joe jumped up and headed back to the huddle ready for the next play.

It seems like that’s the best news from these mini-camps. That no one gets hurt.

On the offensive side both Flacco and Smith looked crisp with Beck showing some ineffectiveness.

Kelley Washington is looking like a man that wants some playing time this season. He caught passes for multiple scores today and looked comfortable with his new teammates.

On the defensive side corners Derrick Martin and Dominique Foxworth showed good speed closing to the football. Paul Kruger has looked very good so far in early drills.

A number of players wore red jerseys and participated in limited way today or they sat out completely: (Limited) Samari Rolle; Todd Heap; Jason Phillips; Oniel Cousins; Adam Terry; Demetrius Williams. (Out) Willis McGahee; Chris Carr; Fabian Washington; L.J. Smith; Quinn Sypniewski…Some players wore read but still participated (signifying no contact) such as: Ed Reed; Frank Walker; Antwan Barnes; Kelly Talavou.

I will add that another exciting thing to hear is that this was one of the most well attended voluntary camps in recent memory. All the starters were there save Terrell Suggs and Haloti Ngata. (who is finishing his degree)

It’s only May but the team has a focus and purpose not seen in many years. Let’s hope this translates into another solid campaign.
