Did the Ravens Overpay for Suggs? Sure, but They Had To

Did the Ravens overpay for their own? Yes, they for sure paid more than they probably wanted for LB Terrell Suggs, but let’s be real here, if the Ravens didn’t give him this deal when they did, the price for Suggs would only go up. Suggs signed a six-year deal that will net him up to $63 million. Not bad for a 26-year-old.

And that is the point as well, Suggs is just 26, meaning that if plays out the contract, he’ll be just 32, and still could have some good football left in him even at that age. It’s a deal that the Ravens had to do, and one that will keep him as a leader on the defense for a long time to come.

“I’m only 26 years of age, and my best years are ahead of me,” Suggs said. “I can only get smarter as my years of experience pile up. I wasn’t sure this deal was going to get done even though I kept saying it was close. I thought the chances were about 50-50, and I definitely didn’t want to get franchised again.”

Now he won’t have to worry about that problem, and even though it cost them a ton, the Ravens can at least put this headache behind them and start working on other deals for young players in the future.
