Ravens Insider: Kicking Battle a Dead Heat

The Baltimore Sun’s Jamison Hensley gives you some insight on the current kicking competition between Graham Gano and Steve Hauschka. At this point in time has says it’s a dead heat and it will take the pre-season to decide who wins the job. However if the Ravens feel neither is ready Matt Stover could be in the wings.

Personally I’ll go on record to say that Graham Gano wins the job.

Why? He has a cooler sounding name. Just kidding. But not really.

Actually I think Gano is a bit more athletic and that is also coming from Special Teams coach Jerry Rosburg. Gano has some far outperformed his competition off the tee in kickoffs and that’s a definite need for improvement with Baltimore. He also hit a 54 yard Field Goal two days ago. But we’ll see how it plays out in pre-season.

When we drafted Gano I thought he would easily run away with this.
Now we are still talking about Stover (don’t get me wrong, love me some Stover) but it’s clear we’ve got to wait this one out.

stover is one of the original ravens, him and lewis i believe are the only 2 that are the original ravens left, he should be starting. they need to start mr.automatic. he is my favorite player of all time next to ray lewis. hes got to start.

  3. Austin says:

Matt Stover should still be the starting Field Goal Kicker because of his reliability. Its obvious that these two don’t have the accuracy that Matt Stover has. We should keep him starting and let the other two go for Long Distance field goals and kick-offs.

  4. There will always be a lot of love for Stove-Top. If neither of these young bucks can get the job done you may get your wish this season.
