Both wide receiver Marcus Smith and quarterback John Beck are scheduled to undergo magnetic resonance imaging exams Friday after suffering what could be serious injuries in the Ravens’ 23-0 defeat of the Washington Redskins at M&T Bank Stadium Thursday night.
Smith came up limping after tackling Washington’s Marcus Mason on a punt return in the second quarter. Smith said he might have torn the anterior cruciate ligament or the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.
Beck said he injured his throwing shoulder when a Redskins player barreled into him after Beck completed a 64-yard pass to wide receiver Jayson Foster in the fourth quarter.
“I was hoping it was nothing,” Beck said. “I didn’t want to come out. But when we went to the sideline, I kind of knew something was wrong.”
If Smith is out for the season that does take away a Special Teams player and another hopeful receiver. That gives Justin Harper a clearer path to making the ballclub. I’m unsure if the team team would try to sign a free agent at this point.
Beck was brought over due to his familiarity with Cam Cameron’s offense and if he is out the team will need to look around to find another third string replacement. I don’t think keeping just two quarterbacks on the roster is a good move on today’s NFL.
