Scott Says Ryan Ran the Ravens

From the Baltimore Sun

Jets inside linebacker Bart Scott, who always says what is on his mind, had an interesting answer to a question on how he felt about Rex Ryan being a head coach rather than just leading the defense.

“I love it. He was always the head coach,” said Scott, who spent seven season with the Ravens before signing with New York during the off season. Ryan spent the previous 10 seasons as a Ravens assistant. “He was head coach of that football team last year, whether you guys know it or not. He kept that team together. The defense leads that team over there, and he controls the defense.”

I should have figured that Bart Scott couldn’t just leave well enough alone.

I had praised him earlier for his humble comments prior to the game. He should be thankful that Baltimore took a chance on an undrafted player out of Southern Illinois and through hard work on his part and that opportunity, has made himself into a well paid professional.

But to be honest I don’t see the Ravens missing him that much. Last night proved that they have several options to take his spot that are younger and faster and the defense shouldn’t miss a beat.

Personally I was fine with him leaving. Ever since his embarrassing flag throwing against the Patriots in 2007 I’ve been waiting for the day that his contract would expire.

I know it sounds sour now that he’s gone. As a performer on the field he was a solid compliment to the major players on the field. Three of the last four years he registered 90 or more Total tackles so he proved he could get the job done. But “the Hot Sauce” is New York’s problem now and he fits right in with Rex’s boastful style.

Who knows, maybe he’s just upset that he didn’t get in box score against his former team? (No Tackles, No Assists, Nothing)

Matt I totally agree. Bart was good for a while but he is nothing that can’t be replaced with a seasoned Tavares Gooden in a year or two. Next man up. I think Harbs would beg to differ as to who ran the team last year. Oh well, the New York Media is going to love those two. Great post, keep up the good work.

I found these comments of Bart’s pretty intriguing. I mean, why would he say that? Was there dissension among the ranks last season- yes, but we’ve gotten rid of them. McAllister gone. Scott gone.

Going from Billick to Harbaugh was no doubt, a shock to some of the veterans system/s and those who couldn’t roll, got out. Lucky for us…

Still, to hear it be said out loud by a former player was pretty shocking at least to me.
I still have a twinge of loss for Scott after all this too. I like that he says what is on his mind.
