Harper Joins Six Others on Practice Squad

haarper

The Ravens kept just four wide receivers on the active roster, but also signed undrafted rookie Eron Riley and 7th round pick in 2008, Justin Harper to the practice squad.

Other players signed by the Ravens to the practice squad: safety K.J. Gerard, offensive linemen Bryan Mattison, Joe Reitz and Stefan Rodgers and outside linebacker William VanDeSteeg.

Now that the developmental squad has been finalized and the roster has been cut down I still don’t think Baltimore is finished tinkering before Week One.

Both six round pick Cedric Peerman and fifth round pick Davon Drew failed to make the cut. Drew is even more surprising to me. I know he had some health issues but currently Edgar Jones is the backup Tight End. Jones has nice flexibility and can play defense in a pinch but isn’t this team already loaded with defensive players?

L.J. Smith is continuing his trend of spending more time on the sidelines than between the lines and while Todd Heap has looked better
he will need someone to spell him from time to time. So I would hope to see a pickup there.

The Ravens addressed the need at Tackle with a trade for Moll. He has some experience and should be adequate but really where was Martin going to find time in this defense?

The fact the team kept only four wide receivers on the roster means that they will pick up another off the wire (David Tyree?) since Reggie Brown never did get cut. They have to be looking to make a move to shore this corps up with Clayton still recovering though he should be ready to go against Kansas City.

With Jason Cook gone finally the Ravens may get around to re-signing Lorenzo Neal. I know he’s a specialty player, an old school fullback who blocks. But check wherever he’s been. He is a tremendous asset to the running game and he was a big part of Baltimore’s rush attack that was fourth in the NFL. Sign him now!

Think the Ravens thought that they could sneak Drew by . . . probably figured that Peerman would get picked up . . but it was a numbers game with the RBs . . good luck to Cedric. We’ll need some immediate help at TE . . if Heap gets hurt its CURTAINS !!
