A New Kicking Era? Or ‘Phone Caw’Away?

As this new era begins with kicker Steve Hauschka there will plenty of opportunities as new season unfolds. Hauschka earned his roster spot this year by competing with rookie Graham Gano and at the same time knowing that if he didn’t do well Coach John Harbaugh would call the veteran Matt Stover. Hauschka was originally signed by the Minnesota Vikings in 2008 and then later picked up on waivers by Baltimore. Many fans remember Hauschka’s first professional attempt when he kicked a 54 yard field goal against the Houston Texans last season.

Some questions still remain. Will Harbaugh have any room for error? Or, will he be on the ready to make that emergency ‘Phone Caw’ to veteran Matt Stover? How will the fans react to his ups and downs? Hauschka did have time to learn from the veteran Matt Stover and surely he took good notes.

Kicker Matt Stover is a legend for the Baltimore Ravens. He has played for Baltimore since the franchise begun in 1996. In 1990 Stover was drafted by the New York Giants w ith the 329th selection in the NFL draft and then to Cleveland. Stover holds many records including scoring the most points for a franchise. One day Stover will be inducted into the Ravens Ring of Honor and with his numbers as well as his game winning kicks, the Hall of Fame too.
