Ravens Work Out WR Tyree

From Aaron Wilson – Carroll County Times

The Baltimore Ravens worked out former New York Giants wide receiver and special-teams ace David Tyree on Tuesday, but the team doesn’t plan to immediately sign him to a contract.

Tyree had a good workout and passed his physical, and the team could revisit the situation with him in the next week or two.

As a vested veteran, Tyree’s entire salary would be guaranteed for the season if he was signed prior to the first game. If the Ravens were to sign Tyree after their opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, they could cut him later without any financial ramifications.

The former Syracuse player has dealt with numerous injuries, including knee, hamstring and groin problems during training camp.

This move isn’t really all that exciting if the team indeed does pull the trigger and sign the former Super Bowl hero. Aside from his famous catch he has never had a great impact in the passing game for the Giants with his best season being in 2006 when he caught 19 passes.

It seems clear to me that with only four receivers and two heathy tight ends at the moment it would be helpful to grab another pass catcher.

If they do sign Tyree it won’t be until Week Two and it will be because they like his Special Teams work, not his ability to stretch the field.
