Short Sighted

On Tuesday afternoon the Ravens decided to sign journeyman tight end Tony Curtis and trade special teams linebacker Prescott Burgess to the New England Patriots for a conditional 7th round draft pick. Am I the only one who sees this as perhaps the most bone-headed, short sighted decision that Ozzie Newsome has made in recent memory?

Let’s get this right out in the open. The Baltimore Ravens play the New England Patriots on October 4th. That’s two weeks away. One of the keys to the Ravens pulling out a win against the Pats needed to be the element of surprise. Just ask Rex Ryan. It’s how he won with a rookie QB and a rebuilt defensive front.

The Ravens just sent a spy into enemy hands knowingly and willingly. If you don’t think that Prescott Burgess will be spending the next two weeks with Bill Belichick spilling his guts as to all things Ravens, then you’re kidding yourself.

Who knows, maybe the 7th round pick will help the Ravens land the next superstar. But giving away a solid contributor to an opposing team two weeks before you are scheduled to play said team is just insane. The Ravens will now be at an extreme disadvantage going into New England.
