Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo has only been featured in the Ravens’ defense for three weeks and mostly just in passing situations.
And already he is bringing in the hardware.
Ayanbadejo received the AFC Defensive Player of the Week award for his performance against the Cleveland Browns in Week 3.
Ayanbadejo recorded an interception, a sack and six tackles according to coaches’ video, including one tackle for a loss. He is second on the Ravens with 17 tackles.
Ayanbadejo intercepted Browns replacement quarterback Derek Anderson on his first drive in the third quarter. It was his first interception since his second season in the NFL in 2004.
This marks the first time that Ayanbadejo has been named a Player of the Week Award. It is the Ravens’ first since Terrell Suggs won AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 7 of 2008.
Ayanbadejo has been used extensively on third downs due to his coverage ability and he’s also racking up the tackles. Here’s to Brendan showing people he’s more than a Special Teamer.
