Oher Steps In, Steps Up

When starting left tackle Jared Gaither wet down with an injury in New England Sunday, right tackle Michael Oher had to step up to a big challenge.  Just his fourth NFL start and on the road in one of toughest places to play, Michael Oher made the adjustment moving to left tackle in the middle of the game.  It was something that could have easily gone wrong, however Oher excelled showing consistency and poise.  His first play filling in the Patriots blitzed on his side and Oher blocked the pass rusher which gave Flacco time in the pocket. Throughout the rest of the game Oher continued to make some key blocks in crucial situations. Marshal Yanda came into the game to help the line and in Coach Harbaugh’s press conference Monday he was impressed with both Yanda and Oher.

 Line Shows Poise & Promise

This year the offense line has played extremely well and playing through adversity is a must in the NFL. The offensive line dealt well with adversity as things got shifted around due to the injury to Gaither and it was promising to see the Ravens offense stay consistent. The line prepares for certain situations but executing under duress in game time situations is the only real test.  Next week the Ravens take on the Cincinnati and if Oher is needed at left tackle he along with the offensive line will have more time to prepare and will only improve.

 Jared Gaither Update

Jared Gaither status is a more positive than it looked on the field and it has been reported that he may be ready to play as soon as next Sunday’s match up against Cincinnati which is good news. As the reports, “The status of Jared Gaither is still uncertain as the team waits for results of a magnetic imaging resonance exam of the left offense tackle’s neck and shoulders.” “He could play this week because it’s not a serious injury as far as we know right now,” Harbaugh said.
