IR Gets Two, Ravens Sign Fullback

As reported by the baltimoresun.com, the Ravens placed cornerback Fabian Washington on injured reserved. Washington suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s game.  In addition, running back Matt Lawrence was also placed on IR with a knee injury.  To add depth to the secondary the Ravens signed cornerback Cary Williams off the Titans’ practice squad.

Fullback Signing

In an interesting move, the Ravens signed free-agent fullback Charles Ali. 6-feet-2 and 255 pounds, Ali played two seasons for the Cleveland Browns, 2007 and 2008 as reported in the baltimoresun.com.  Ali was currently playing for New York of the United Football League.

Last Year’s Run Formula?

Perhaps with the signing of a fullback it means the Ravens will commit to a power running game with RB LeRon McClain. Last year the team had much success with fullback Lorenzo Neal blocking for McClain.  It will be interesting to see if the team has plans to use Ali in the same way as the lead blocker for McClain.   Many that believe that QB Joe Flacco has regressed because the team went away from the successful running formula they had last year.  Another reason the team may have signed a fullback is that the offense has struggled in short yardage situations as evident in last Sunday’s goal line series against Indy.
