Ricky Williams Impact

Ricky Williams Impact:

Ricky Williams  is 5-10, 230 pounds and we can be sure we will see him in short yardage, goaline and just some pure power running.  It will be a good change of pace with Ray Rice as the starter.

With Vonta Leach, a pure lead blocking fullback and Ricky Williams following, it should make for a good tandem. Kinda reminds fans of Lorenzo Neal blocking for LeRon McClain just a few short years ago.  So, looks like the Ravens might have brought in just the right back for this offense.

Of course the Ravens resigned Marshal Yanda, OG, who is best suited in run blocking.  You can envision a lot of runs in between the tackles this year.

Receiving/Hands

Ricky Williams also has decent hands, he can catch the ball out of the backfield and is suited for short passes or screens.  In 2010 Williams had 19 receptions for 141 yards. Doesn’t seem like a lot, yet he averaged 7.4 yards per reception and has most of his career (7.7).

Williams played under Cam Cameron in Miami an added benefit to picking up the offense. Another added benefit, Williams can throw the football. The pass option probably won’t be a huge part of the playbook for Williams, but it will keep the defense guessing sometimes.

Upgrade at #2 back

Williams is 34 and there may be doubts because he only ran for just 673 yards in 2010. However, as noted, he averaged “4.2 yards per carry last season while the rest of the Dolphins’ running backs managed 3.5 yards per carry. He is also a season removed from rushing for 1,221 yards and 11 touchdowns.” And Williams is durable; since 2008 he played all 16 games each season.

Make no mistake, the team just upgraded the “number two” back position.
