Ravens Sign Center Andre Gurode to a 1-Yr Deal

The Ravens reached agreement Sunday with former Five-Time Pro Bowl Center Andre Gurode formerly of the Dallas Cowboys.

Gurode is execllent insurance behind Matt Birk, who did not play in the Pre-Season and is recovering from knee surgery on August 3rd. This move, while a solid depth pick-up, raises questions as to Birk’s availability for the season opener against Pittsburgh.

Of course this is all predicated on Gurode passing his physical and if he does the Ravens will have to make a move to stay at the 53 player roster limit.

You have to like this move as it shores up one of the most important positions on the Offensive Line. This group is a talented unit individually with former Pro Bowlers like McKinnie, Birk, and now Gurode. And players on the cusp of achieving that honor like Marshal Yanda, and Ben Grubbs and an improving Michael Oher.

My only question is just how long will these guys need to work together to gain some cohesion? That is perhaps the biggest issue and they will no doubt be put to the test against a team that loves to blitz early and often in Pittsburgh.
