Cundiff Healthy; Graham Gets Released

Confidence in the health and form of Billy Cundiff, the Ravens announced yesterday that they have released veteran kicker Shayne Graham.

Graham, who was signed by the Ravens on Dec. 21 with Cundiff dealing with a left calf injury, was 2-for-2 on field-goal attempts in a 20-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns in Week 15, converting from 48 and 43 yards out along with making both of his extra points.

However, the Ravens chose to go with Cundiff in Sunday’s regular-season closing 24-16 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Pro Bowl selection last year made his one field-goal attempt from 42 yards. He also was 3-for-3 on extra points and had two of his five kickoffs go for touchbacks. All of this was done in some adverse conditions with swirling winds most of the late afternoon.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh reiterated yesterday that the team would go with Cundiff as its regular kicker going forward.

“As long as Billy’s healthy, he’ll be our kicker,” Harbaugh said. “I think we were really fortunate that Shayne was available, and I think if anything happens in the future and if he’s still available, I wouldn’t be surprised that if someone had an issue, they would pick Shayne up right away.”
