4 Takes: Which AFC Playoff Team Poses the Toughest Test?

It’s playoff time! With the week off we’ll look at which teams could be the biggest challenge to the Ravens. We pose the question to our Ravens Gab contributors:

“Which AFC Playoff Team poses the biggest threat to the Ravens?”

Jonathon Scruggs: New England Patriots

The team that poses the biggest challenge to the Ravens in the AFC Playoffs is the New England Bradys. The Bradys may not have the best defense in football, but they do have their name sake Quarterback, and he’s more than capable of putting up just enough points to stave off a defeat. I really fear a hot throwing Tom Brady against the Ravens’ secondary. Gronk and Welker matchup so well against the Baltimore Defense that it would be hard to keep up, and I don’t Joe and company are capable of pace for pace touchdowns.

Matt Jergensen: New England Patriots

“They have the most potent offense in the AFC and that’s an advantage they have over all other contenders as well as Home Field throughout. I do think the Ravens match-up well with the Pats and have always either played them close or in the case of their last playoff meeting blew them out. The New England defense against the Baltimore offense is the real deciding factor if these two teams meet for a chance to see who gets to the Super Bowl.”

Gene Winner: New England Patriots

The Ravens threat is the New England Patriots and Baltimore may very well go to New England (#1 Seed). The good news is that the Ravens have won a playoff game (2009/2010 season) in New England, not an easy task. The bad news is that if the Ravens secondary can’t slow down the Patriots tightends it could be a long day. QB Tom Brady is always dangerous and has plenty of experience in the post season.  One positive for the Ravens is that New England’s defense has struggled, ranked 17th versus the run, and that means Ray Rice should have some success.

Ben Zinman: Houston Texans

The team that presents the biggest challenge to the Ravens in the AFC playoffs are the Houston Texans. They do not have any significant concerns which could threaten their success in the playoffs. Their defense is very good, along with their offense which has always been solid. The QB position could be a concern.”

In the playoffs, it always comes down to running the ball, and playing good defense!
So they need to stick with that formula! I agree NE is tough, but so is Pittsburgh…
