Yanda Had Emergency Surgery on Christmas Eve

I gave out major kudos to Offensive Lineman Marshal Yanda a few weeks ago due to his performance against the Cincinnati Bengals during the season finale. Not just due to the fact that he played well but that he had sustained a rib contusion which limited his breathing during the previous game against Cleveland.

On Wednesday, we learned just how tough Yanda is as he casually explained that he had to have surgery on his calf after the Ravens defeated the Browns on Christmas Eve.

The first-time Pro Bowler had this to say about the situation.

“I got leg-whipped in my calf area,” Yanda said. “They had to do emergency surgery that night and slit the muscle open to release the pressure. I was dealing with that, too.

“It was a nasty scar and a [crappy] way to spend Christmas Eve, but that was the way it was. I was fighting that, too. That was really sore, and my ribs.”

“It’s over with now,” Yanda said. “I got the stitches out and my leg feels good.”

Apparently, it’s just another day at the office for Yanda who played the following week and helped Ray Rice to a 191 yard afternoon rushing and a Division title.
