Would Wayne “Fit Perfectly” in Baltimore?

Ozzie Newsome stated several weeks ago that one of the Ravens off-season priorities was to get stronger at the Receiver position. There will be several intriguing free agent options that are set to hit the market in March and it will be interesting to see if the Ravens choose to pursue anyone since they have several in-house signings to clear up first.

ESPN’s Jamison Hensley seems to think that the Ravens “need” to pursue Colts’ 33-year-old Reggie Wayne, and that he might be a perfect fit for what Baltimore is looking for.

Hensley argues that Wayne is different than previous vets that were brought in like T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Lee Evans. He claims that his dependability and that Wayne’s friend Ed Reed could help recruit him as well.

It’s certainly a possibility but I’m not a hundred percent sold. Baltimore needs a dependable third receiver and while Wayne may look good on paper (his numbers declined without Manning in 2011) I wonder if the Ravens should instead continue to develop options already on the roster like Laquan Williams and Tandon Doss.

So what do you think? Should the Ravens go after Reggie Wayne?

Peyton Manning can make any receiver look like a rockstar. I’d be weary of Wayne.

    Mike Wallace?

  3. Hmm. I’ve read the rumors about Wallace. I wouldn’t mind having him at all. But I think that a team with a ton of cap space would scoop him up instead. The Ravens still need to re-sign Rice and may just tag him, they say they are going to try and retain Ben Grubbs plus they want to re-negotiate with Flacco before his contract is up in 2013.

Either way I’m happy to see him leaving Pittsburgh.

To be fair, there still is the possibility of Wallace staying in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately I think Vincent Jackson would be the best fit for Baltimore
