Newsome Confirms Ed Reed with Return in 2012

The Ballhawk returns for another season.

There are many questions facing the Ravens this off-season but one about their Pro Bowl Safety appears to have been answered.

Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome confirmed Friday that Ed Reed will play in 2012. Reed, who turns 34 when the season begins, has been considering retirement after every season since the end of the 2008 season because of concerns over his nerve impingement in his neck and shoulder.

This is great news for Ravens fans because Reed is still a dangerous play-maker and even when he isn’t creating turnovers his mere presence can change an opponent’s offensive game plan. The real concern is if Reed will be able to play through a full season without injury. He missed a total of 10 games in 2009 and 2010 because of injuries, and he struggled at the end of the 2011 season because of a shoulder injury (which he acknowledged led to missing tackles in four straight games). Reed finished with three interceptions last season, his fewest for a 16-game season.
