Birk Will Not Retire; Hopes for a Return to Ravens

Birk Wants to Stay in Baltimore

Matt Birk has decided to return to football, according to his agent.

Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times is reporting that agent Joe Linta says Birk “feels great” and that the Ravens are interested in having him back.

The NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora is reporting that negotiations with the Ravens will begin immediately at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The Ravens center would be coming back for his 15th year in the NFL. He has spent the last three seasons as the Ravens starting center.

Birk, 35, is also an unrestricted free agent.

It will be interesting to see how the Ravens handle the situation since Birk’s back-up Andre Gurode is also a free agent. General Manager Ozzie Newsome said last month, “Before we line up and play in 2012, there will be another center on this football team in some capacity – free agency, draft or whatever.”
