Could Williams Return to NFL as a Charger?

Does Ricky Still Want to Play?

At first I thought this was some kind of April Fool’s Day post.

Then again I remembered that this particular story centered around Ricky Williams.

It’s being reported at Pro Football Talk that Williams told 103.1 FM in Austin (via ESPN.com) that he’d un-retire and would consider playing for the Chargers next season.

San Diego has said nothing about professing to have any interest in the now former Raven so who knows if there’s really anything to it.

I don’t want to talk badly about Williams since he seemed to be the model teammate and had no problems backing up Ray Rice. He was fairly productive here and was a solid change of pace to Rice’s style, rushing for 444 yards (4.1 ypc) and 2 touchdowns. He also only spoke well of the coaching staff and the organization so I wonder if he just isn’t quite finished playing yet.

I’m not worried about this anyway. Even if he does want to play in San Diego or even New Orleans he’d have to get the Ravens consent first since they still do retain his rights.

Williams seems to be a man that walks to his own beat so next month he may decide to come back to Baltimore, or maybe become a priest in Tibet. At any rate it’s hard to predict what he’ll do next. Maybe he wants it that way.
