Ravens Sign Five Exclusive Rights Free Agents

Kindle, Gorrer, and Cox are all under contract as of yesterday

The Ravens inked five exclusive rights free agents yesterday before the start of their strength and conditioning program: outside linebacker Sergio Kindle, defensive back Danny Gorrer, long snapper Morgan Cox, guard/center Justin Boren and linebacker Josh Bynes.

Exclusive rights free agents are players who have less than three accrued seasons in the league and whose contracts have expired. If they are offered a tender by the Ravens, they must sign that if they want to play the following season, and they cannot negotiate with another team.

After missing all of his rookie season, former second-round pick Sergio Kindle will get a chance to prove himself this off-season and compete for an outside linebacker spot.

Gorrer was a welcome surprise last season rounded into a contributing member of the secondary , as well as special teams. He was active for 11 games and made five tackles and four pass deflections. He appears to be competing for the No. 4 cornerback spot with recently-signed defensive back Corey Graham and second-year cornerback Chykie Brown.

Cox has been the Ravens’ long snapper for the past two seasons. The Ed Block Courage Award winner rebounded from a major knee injury suffered in 2010 to play the entire season last year.

Boren and Bynes were unrestricted free agents last year who spent most of their time on the practice squad.

Boren was pulled up from the practice squad to the active roster last January for the playoffs. The 6-foot-2, 325-pounder gives the Ravens flexibility along the interior offensive line.

Bynes was briefly on the active roster when the linebacker corps was hit with Ray Lewis’ injury. The former college national champion at Auburn was cut and later re-signed.
