Ravens Have Least Amount of Cap Space in NFL

The Cap is Tight!

Here’s yet another reason to sign either Ray Rice or Joe Flacco to long term deals – it would free up cap space.

According to the league’s official website the Ravens are only $606, 858 under the current salary cap with the Oakland Raiders second with about $1.3 million under. That’s about double the room Baltimore has.

Right now, Flacco carries an 8 million dollar number into the season, while Rice’s is slightly less at the 7.7 million dollar franchise tag. That’s about 12 percent of the team’s cap on two players. Important players, but only two. I should also mention that Ed Reed’s number in the final season of his contract is a bit more than Flacco at 8.5 million.

Something has to give soon or the Ravens will have no room to make some minor additions to take care of any weak spots that present themselves during the Pre-season.

It can be done. Our friends to the North, Pittsburgh who were in the worst cap situation of any team at the start of the off-season now sit at $3.7 million under.
