D-Line Developing A Talented Bunch

Defensive line developing a talented bunch

One area where we might see the biggest improvement from is the Ravens defensive line.  The team has developed quite a talented bunch with the likes of Terrence Cody, Arthur Jones and second year player Pernell McPhee. McPhee had a strong rookie campaign in his first season.  Jones will be shifted to the defensive end position. Of course with Haloti Ngata as the anchor the unit has a tactical advantage. Because he is so versatile, Ngata can line up at various spots with in the line.  The Ravens have consistently been stout against the run. Last season they ranked second versus the run, allowing 92.6 yards per contest in the regular season.  Not only is the goal to continue being stout, but also to create pressure (front four pressure per say) on passing downs.

X-Factors: Besides veteran Ma’ake Kemoeatu, the team signed DT/NT Ryan McBean.  McBean (former Bronco) will add depth but could be an effective player in the rotation. McBean will have to sit out 3 games for violating the league’s performance-enhancement policy. Rookies impact: The Ravens drafted DeAngelo Tyson this year in the seventh round. In 2011 undrafted rookie Bryan Hall was signed and spent a year on the practice squad, he’s been having an impressive offseason and start to camp.
