Are Two Major Camp Battles Already Over?

Is it already assured that Jones is the #3?

Tomorrow night’s first pre-season contest against Atlanta should give the players a chance to prove themselves and coaches a chance to evaluate as they try to flesh out the roster.

However some people seem to think that two competitions on the Ravens roster are already decided – third receiver and Kicker.

CSN Baltimore columnist John Eisenberg has already declared new signee Jacoby Jones as the winner to work behind Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith in the receiving corps.

“This one is over,” Eisenberg wrote Tuesday, “It was Jacoby Jones’ job to lose, and he didn’t.”

You certainly won’t hear Head Coach John Harbaugh back up any of those declarations but maybe Eisenberg is on to something. Jones was the front runner at the start of this competition anyway and they did sign him to a pretty generous 2-year 6 million dollar which seems like a lot for just a return man.

If that is the case then we should look down a slot and see who is Fourth on the depth chart. Tandon Doss looked like the favorite here but he’s been sidelines with hamstring issues. That would put LaQuan Williams next in line who has outplayed the rest of the field so far. Tommy Streeter looks raw and bound for the Practice squad while Deonte Thompson has faded a bit after coming out strong the first week.

The overall consensus in the kicking game is that it’s Billy Cundiff’s job to lose. Cundiff seems to believe the same thing.

Speaking with 105.7 The Fan’s Mark Zinno about how this year’s training camp has compared to past ones, Cundiff said he has appreciated the support from the Ravens and has already been told what he has to do to keep his job.

“Coach Harbaugh especially, has said, ‘Look, if you just go out and do your thing, then you’re going to be our guy.’ So the competition is essentially here to make sure I’m doing my thing. Make sure that I don’t falter, make sure that I’m keeping my paces up, and make sure that I’m trying to get better.”

Sounds like Cundiff feels pretty confident that rookie Justin Tucker isn’t truly going to challenge him for his job.

I’m sure that news isn’t going to sit well with much of Ravens nation who have called for Cundiff’s leg and demand that somebody, anybody take the job for the upcoming season.
