Instant Reaction: Eagles 24 – Ravens 23

Jonathan Scruggs:

“Two things killed the Ravens today. Scab refs and the all air all the time game plan. I sincerely don’t understand how Cam Cameron continues to find employment with the Baltimore Ravens. That has to be one of the poorest game plans I have ever seen conceived by this team. Blame falls equally on John Harbaugh and Joe Flacco for continuing to stick to it, but ignoring Ray Rice is down right criminal. I am at a a complete loss for words on how the Ravens could have put forth such a lackluster effort against a team that is simply over rated.”

Gene Winner:

“The Ravens were sloppy and pass protection was anemic.  The many third and short opportunities for the offense were not converted and that will hurt your chances of winning ten fold. A surprising concern is the secondary, they gave up too many big chunks of yards.  Turnovers on the road are a killer. “

Scruggs- It is way too easy to place the blame on the refs, keep in mind that every other team are using the same refs. Maybe your defense should have shown up today and not blow a ten point lead at the half. Even still the Ravens had the chance to win late in the game but Flacco did it again by coming up short down the stretch, yet again trying to rely on check downs to ray rice, which the Eagles were clearly ready for. When it’s all said and done, the Ravens didn’t look like a team that can make a deep playoff push. Granted it is obviously very early in the season, but if the trend of Cams play calling continues then its going to be another disappointing season.

Cam’s playcalling awful—run Ray Rice in the clutch w over a minute left please if you need 2 yrs.

The pushoff by Jacoby Jones call was the gamechanger; it looked to me like that same handbattle that Torrey had on the winning td in pittsburgh last yr and those same refs had permitted our WRs to be mugged all game long.

The Vick fumble call was wrong-it should have been intentional grounding —he was in ngata’s grasp, the ball landed in the middle
of 3 lineman, none of whom were eligible receivers and the ball did
not get back to the line of scrimmage…that is the very definition of Intentional Grounding. Loss of Down, ball on the 7 and does Vick run a draw then??? I doubt it. We need the real refs!

  3. I agree that the refs didn’t cause the Ravens to lose the game. The regular officials blow calls as well.

@The Tony – Your assessment of the Ravens playoff chances are extremely preamature. Coming from a Steelers fan I would expect as much. Baltimore was 1-1 in 2011 and they got to the AFC title game, that’s pretty deep.

The problem with Flacco is Cam Cameron. After watching how he looked against the Bengals and watching the Eagles game you saw almost two entirely different quarterbacks.

Against Cincy,Flacco had control over the offense, he checked out of plays, used misdirection, and in general ran the show. Two days ago I saw a player who was sent in plays late by his coach (no doubt to deter an audible-they actually got two Delay calls)and showed the body language that he did in past seasons.

So please don’t buy into the Pittsburgh fans mantra of Flacco falling short again. If he had total control of the offense I’d put the blame fully on him but he continues to be shackled at times and I have no idea why.
