Torrey Smith Rejoins Team After Death of Younger Brother

It Looks Like Smith Will Play Tonight.

Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith has rejoined his teammates in Baltimore prior to 4 p.m. after traveling to Virginia to be with his family following the early morning death of his younger brother, Tevin, in a motorcycle accident.

All indications point toward Smith planning to play tonight against the New England Patriots at M&T Bank Stadium after his arrival at the stadium within the 5 o’clock hour.

Although Torrey Smith is expected to play tonight, Ravens have left the decision entirely up to him. If he opts not to play due to the situation, Jacoby Jones would start in his place with Tandon Doss, Deonte Thompson working in behind him. The Ravens could also have LaQuan Williams active as a fifth receiver.

In a statement earlier today, the Ravens said coach John Harbaugh does not know if Smith will play against the Patriots tonight.

“Torrey’s priority is his family,” Harbaugh said. “We understand that completely.”This is devastatingly sad, sad news,” Harbaugh said. “Torrey and his family are a close, special family, and our hearts and thoughts reach out to all of them. Our hearts ache today. We pray for Tevin, his mother, Torrey and the rest of the family. God  bless Tevin.”
