4 Takes: ‘The MVP Thursday Night is…’

Short week for the Ravens after a dramatic win over New England. Who’s the player who can help carry the team to win Thursday Night? The Baltimore Gridiron staff give their take:

Jonathan Scruggs:

Haloti Ngata. The Ravens will need to dominate the line of scrimmage and contain Trent Richardson if they hope to win this game. Yes it’s the Browns, and yes it figures to be a lesser contest, but that being said, Richardson is the kind of back that has given Ravens the fits for years. Haloti will be pivotal in breaking up the Browns protection and containing the run. Force Weeden to pass and he will make mistakes.”

Gene Winner:

“It’s easy to pick Ray Rice, but after last week where he helped ignite the offense, he’s due for another great game. Besides, at halftime Thursday night the Ravens will induct running back Jamal Lewis into the Ravens Ring of Honor. So, it should be a good evening for Ravens running backs.”

Ben Zinman

“My MVP for the Thursday night game against the Cleveland Browns is going to be Lardarius Webb. He is showing strong signs of becoming that all important shutdown corner the Ravens need him to become.”

Matt Jergensen:

“My MVP for this Thursday night is Ed Reed. Reed came out strong last week against the Patriots in response to getting hurdled by Philadlephia’s Brent Celek. He was flying around on the back-end of the defense and caused several important incompletions. The Ravens defensive plan should be simple – stop the run and force their young quarterback to throw. Reed makes a living off of inexperienced quarterbacks.”
