Reed Says He Has a Torn Labrum in His Shoulder

Is Reed Playing Hurt?

Another day, another Ravens Pro Bowl defender reveals an injury.

Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl free safety Ed Reed recently disclosed that he has a torn labrum in his shoulder.

During a radio interview with 105.7 The Fan on Wednesday night, the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year acknowledged that the injury may be having a negative effect on his play.

Reed’s tackling certainly wasn’t sharp during the Ravens’ 31-29 win over the Dallas Cowboys last week.  There were times Sunday when Reed tried to push players out of bounds instead of tackling them, which allowed the Cowboys to pick up extra yards.

If Reed chooses to continue playing, he can’t be as ineffective as he was last Sunday. The Ravens need all eleven players swarming to the ball when they play the Texans, one of the best offenses in the league. The Ravens need an aggressive Reed like when he broke up a touchdown pass against the Patriots in Week three.

The other issue that could become a major concern is if the coaching staff knew that Reed had such an injury. The Ravens haven’t listed him on the injury report, which is a violation of league rules. So either the Ravens chose not to disclose the injury or Reed isn’t really that hurt.
