Ravens Hold Intial Contract Meeting with Oher

Should Baltimore try and extend Oher’s contract?

The Ravens have conducted initial contract talks this fall with offensive tackle Michael Oher regarding a potential extension.

Although no deal is imminent at this time, the Ravens are expected to revisit the talks with agent Jimmy Sexton going forward.

Oher signed to his original five-year rookie deal worth $12.799 million, which included $7.82 million in guaranteed money.

Having started 55 regular-season games, plus six playoff games, since arriving in Baltimore in 2009 when the Ravens drafted him in the first round with the 23rd overall pick, Oher said he would like to stay with the defending AFC North champions for the remainder of his career.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder from Ole Miss is due a $3.085 million base salary next season after triggering a $2.1 million escalator clause through his performance from 2009 to 2011.

Oher has shifted back and forth from right tackle to left tackle, lining up at right tackle for 11 starts and left tackle for five starts as a rookie.

Two seasons ago, Oher started every game at left tackle.

This season, Oher has allowed two sacks and 13 quarterback pressures with four penalties through seven games as Baltimore (5-2) is in first place in the AFC North.
