Ravens second-year cornerback Jimmy Smith had successful groin surgery today in Philadelphia and is expected to miss several weeks, Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reports. The team expressed optimism that he’ll return before the end of the season.
Smith’s injury further challenges a depleted cornerback group. Corey Graham, who was signed as a free agent this offseason mostly for his work on special teams, is expected to step in opposite Cary Williams as the starter. Second-year player Chykie Brown will then become the team’s third corner.
