Boldin: “I Will Retire If Released”

Boldin Doesn’t Want to Play For Another Team

Anquan Boldin  has finally won his first Lombardi Trophy.

And now he doesn’t see himself going anywhere other than Baltimore.

“I won’t play in another uniform,” Boldin said during an interview with Pro Football Talk.

The 10-year veteran has one year left on his contract and has been mentioned as a potential salary cap casualty because the Ravens are pressed for cap space. Boldin’s $7.5 million cap hit is among the highest on the team.

But if the Ravens were to release him this offseason to free up some cash, Boldin would rather retire than go elsewhere.

“For me that’s not something that I worry about,” Boldin said.  “I think you go out and let your play speak for itself.  You deal with that if you have to, but, I think for me — I know for me — Baltimore is the only place I want to play.  It’s the last place that I will play.  For me, I’ll retire a Raven, I’m not putting on any other uniform.”

Cutting Boldin would hardly be performance related, as he carried the receiving corps in the playoffs and was a big part of quarterback Joe Flacco’s  improvement. Boldin had 22 catches for 380 yards and four touchdowns during the postseason, including six catches for 104 yards and a touchdown in the Super Bowl.

In the regular season, Boldin led the Ravens with 921 receiving yards on 65 receptions.

“We have a saying, once a Raven, always a Raven,” Boldin said. “And I’ll always be a Raven.”
