Ravens Draft: 12 Picks Coming to Baltimore

There will be ’12 Picks Coming to Ravens’

As reported by, The Ravens “will enter the NFL draft on April 25th with a whopping 12 draft picks, a 50 percent increase from the eight they previously had. The Ravens will get an extra draft pick in the fourth (130 overall), fifth (168), sixth (203) and seventh round (247).”  With all these picks, GM Ozzie Newsome and company, can make many plenty of moves and they will be able to bolster the roster.

While all the ‘doom and gloomers’ talk about how the Ravens are in so much trouble, there are a few points to consider:

  • The defense needed tweaking, they got hot at just the right time and played inspired in the post season. Yet, during the season they struggled in many areas, such as run defense and giving up big passing plays.
  • There’s a lot of headlines on the Ravens post Super Bowl moves because of all the turnover. Yet, this year is no different from the past years after the season. They make tough choices and while it’s sad to see Paul Kruger and Dannell Ellerbe sign elsewhere, the Ravens just don’t overpay. Replacing Ed Reed, who could sign with Houston, is going to be a big challenge for the seconday. However, it was just a matter of time before the team looked towards the future on the defensive side of the ball.
  • The team also doesn’t overpay in free agency. They’ve always found bargains and the names they do bring in, are sometimes under the radar. Yet, for the most part, these signings turn out to be important for the team. Such as, Jacoby Jones who was stellar in his first year with the team.

While the defense is being revitalized, the offense may actually be more dangerous in 2013.  The team may have lost Anquan Boldin. However, I have a feeling they will be able to put a solid receiving core on the field in 2013.  What’s more intriguing is that the Ravens backfield will be more dangerous, due to RB Bernard Pierce who will be entering his second year. Ray Rice and Pierce, will be a fantastic tandem and will be hard to slow down.

It’s tough enough to win a ring, and the odds are stacked against any team to repeat. Yet, twelve picks in the draft is huge and free agency is far from over.  So, don’t count out the Ravens next season, even with all the turnover.  In the meantime, the Ravens are coming off a Super Bowl victory, two for the franchise now. — Continue to enjoy!
