It’s official, the Ravens today announced the hiring former Wisconsin running backs coach Thomas Hammock as the club new running backs coach.
Hammock will take the place of Wilbert Montgomery, who left the coaching staff in January. Montgomery is joining Mike Pettine’s new staff with Cleveland.
There’s a history with good backs and Hammock, as he coached Heisman Trophy finalist and Doak Walker Award winner Montee Ball, who is with Denver, and also running backs James White and Melvin Gordon. Ball is the NCAA’s all-time leader in touchdown runs and total touchdowns.
“The opportunity to coach at the highest level – and that’s what the NFL is – excites me,” Hammock said in a statement. “To come to an organization that is committed to winning and has a coaching staff that is so respected is a tremendous opportunity, and I’m looking forward to getting started. ..
“Working with coach [John] Harbaugh, learning the offense and working with coach Kubiak, and then coaching these outstanding Ravens players, is special. I feel very honored and fortunate to be here. My wife and I and our two children are looking forward to being part of the Baltimore community.”
